QNX has kicked off the new year with a set of new whitepapers - Seven fatal mistakes to avoid when choosing an embedded OS and the Total cost of ownership Linux vs. QNX - Part 1.
These whitepapers address some of the most common questions and topics that we are asked to speak to.
In 2016 you will see a continued commitment from QNX to create compelling content on topics such as safety, security, connectivity and reliability to name just a few.
How would you go about choosing an embedded Operating System (OS) for the next generation of your product? As long as you do not have to actually do it, you may think that the choice should be based on the objective evaluation of various criteria, such as features, cost, support options, etc. In reality, however, there are seven completely different aspects that push executives, directors, managers and engineers towards fatal traps.
The Linux OS provides for open access to its source code. This has led some to choose Linux as a viable development platform, on the perceived basis that its cost is less than commercial alternatives. To examine this, we present a three-part whitepaper series that closely examines the total cost of ownership of Linux and how that compares to a commercial off-the-shelf realtime operating system like QNX.
In Part 1 of this 3-part series we examine upfront costs, selecting the right version, and time to market

ITTIA DB SQL Data Distribution Bridges QNX with SQL Server
-- QNX Partner News Release --
March 14, 2012 — Bellevue, WA — ITTIA announces the availability of ITTIA DB SQL data distribution features for the QNX® Neutrino® Realtime Operating System (RTOS). These new features, which build upon the existing IITIA DB SQL product for QNX, empower embedded software developers to share and communicate data stored in ITTIA DB SQL on the QNX Neutrino RTOS with a back-end Microsoft® SQL Server database. This allows applications to not only distribute data between devices based on the QNX Neutrino RTOS and Microsoft® SQL Server, but also benefit from the replication environment necessary for high availability.
